SAMPLE EXHIBITIONS & WANDERINGS

WINTER 2015 (B/W Below)

Taken in Downtown Culpeper with a photographer friend. At one time long ago, I had experimented with a Canon SLR but never really invested in the time or equipment to become better versed in film photography. Years later, I’m grateful for his tips and use of equipment, which in this case was a Nikon FM2 and 24-120 mm lens. The black & white film used was also a special treat. Mr. Kitty was quite vocal and although I did manage to get one shot of his face during mid-meow, I much preferred this one of his reaching out.

The building was located across from the Culpeper Depot. After going back to the site repeatedly hoping I’d run into the same cat, he was never to be found in that loft area again. However, I’m quite confident that he was fine and made it back to his true home or territory. I consider it a blessing that most anywhere I wander, I usually cross paths with an area feline. We’re magnets I suppose or maybe we’re all just observant to the things we appreciate the most.

At some point during this category’s journey, I’ll post some of my older photos documenting a service I was pleased to start in my hometown – the first TNR or trap-neuter-return program serving residents and the ferals in their care. That process begin back in 2008, while I think the politically correct term in the rescue biz is currently, ‘community cats’.  Just another way of describing cats living outdoors, on their own or largely in the care of someone who began feeding them long before a colony was established. Some may be unsocialized to people (using the term, ‘feral’) but in most cases they almost always bond to their caregivers. More on this subject later, I’m sure. Mr. Kitty here of course, is not feral or homeless but one of several cats living near and around Davis Street.
